Challenge

Tight tolerances, no slack behind them

Theatre and imaging equipment needs level, tightly toleranced slabs. The fit-out schedule behind the structure has almost no float, so the foundations have to be right the first time.

Approach

Layout verified before every pour

Embeds, sleeves and equipment-pad reinforcement checked against the MEP and equipment drawings, not just the structural set, ahead of each placement.

Outcome

Structure handed over clean

Foundations and slabs completed without saw-cut corrections, letting the fit-out start on programme. The centre opens spring 2026.

The job

NueHealth, with physician investor partners, broke ground on a four-theatre ambulatory surgery centre at 1101 Kentucky Avenue in Platte City on 9 May 2025.

Ambulatory surgery centres are small buildings that behave like complicated ones. The floor has to be flat and level to a standard the equipment vendor sets, the embeds have to land where the imaging and gas systems expect them, and the whole structure is only a few weeks of the programme.

That compression is the point: everything downstream — MEP rough-in, equipment delivery, licensing inspections, an announced opening — is queued behind a structure that has to be right the first time.

How it ran

01

Footings and foundation walls

Reinforcement placed and tied straight off the excavation, with the dowel layout set for the walls that follow.

02

Embeds and equipment pads

Equipment-pad reinforcement and embed layout coordinated against the equipment and MEP drawings before concrete was called.

03

Slab on grade

Mesh and bar set with cover held tight so the finished floor met the flatness and levelness the theatre equipment required.

On a healthcare fit-out the structure is a few weeks and everything else is queued behind it. Right the first time is the only version that keeps the opening date.
